Author Barbara Whitaker with Ginger, the “Top Dog” of Ginger & Spike Publications.

Spike, the other guiding force behind G & S P, was not available for this photo. Hey, at the age of 17, a mature gentleman cat like Spike needs his beauty sleep!

Ginger & Spike Publications came into being in 1995 when Ms. Whitaker got tired of re-inventing the wheel every time she wanted to take her dog Ginger along on a weekend to the coast or the mountains. “I was always on the phone, looking for a dog-friendly place to stay in whatever area we wanted to visit. Finally it dawned on me that if I needed this information, probably a lot of other people with pets did too! So I decided to gather it all together into a book that other dog owners could use to make traveling with their pets easier and more fun.”

Before launching the Have Dog Will Travel series, Ms. Whitaker specialized in technical support for computer users and the writing of software user guides—and she says, “Writing about traveling with my dog is WAY more fun!”

Barbara was interviewed by host Julie Hill of DogCast Radio
on how to make traveling with your dog more enjoyable.

Julie’s wonderfully informative website includes instant replay of her
weekly radio programs, featuring interviews with a wide variety of pet experts.

If your dogs could talk, they'd say, “Please... please... please... let's buy these books and then hit the road this weekend!”
